Metal sculpture — welded steel and salvaged industrial materials

The Makers

Artists & Makers

Metal sculptors, photographers, and found object artists — each practice rooted in the belief that discarded materials carry their own history, beauty, and second life.

Three disciplines. One material philosophy.

⚙

Metal Sculpture

Salvaged steel, iron, and industrial cast-offs welded into sculpture. Forms that hold the memory of their former lives — machinery, infrastructure, the built world repurposed.

◈

Found Object Art

Coastal debris, hardware, and overlooked objects composed into assemblages. Work that asks you to look again at what gets left behind and what it might become.

◎

Photography

Documentary and fine art photography capturing the texture of making — rust, patina, process, and the quiet dignity of worn materials and working hands.

The people behind the work

Upcycled Steel & Iron

Studio Metal Works

Metal Sculptor — Art Farm Fennville, MI

Working from a converted barn studio on the Art Farm, this practice centers on large-scale welded assemblages built entirely from salvaged industrial metal. Each piece begins with a material find — a gear, a beam, a length of chain — and grows outward from there.

Reclaimed Materials

Coastal Object Studio

Found Object Artist — Santa Cruz, CA

Collecting along the Pacific coast and from industrial salvage yards, this practice transforms overlooked objects into narrative assemblages. The work is part archaeology, part sculpture — a record of what washes up and what gets thrown away.

Film & Digital

The Art Coast Studio

Photography & Process — Art Farm Fennville, MI

Documentary photography of the collective's practice — the studios, the materials, the making. Also the originating studio behind the patented upcycled materials process that has been demonstrated at Maker Faires across the country.

Newport Metal Studio

Salvaged Coastal Metal

Newport Metal Studio

Metal Sculptor — Newport, R.I.

Drawing from the maritime heritage of the Rhode Island coast, this studio works with salvaged boat hardware, dock fittings, and industrial marine metal — transforming the infrastructure of the sea into sculpture.

Barcelona Exchange Studio

Mixed Reclaimed Materials

Barcelona Exchange Studio

Found Object & Mixed Media — Barcelona, Spain

Part of the collective's international exchange program, this Barcelona-based practice brings a Mediterranean sensibility to found object work — tile fragments, ironwork, and the material residue of a very old city.

Saugatuck Photography

Film Photography

Saugatuck Photography

Fine Art Photographer — Saugatuck, MI

Large-format film photography focused on the Great Lakes shoreline and the working studios of the collective. Prints made in a traditional darkroom from negatives shot on location across all five Art Coast sites.

Recognition

Built in public. Recognized for it.

01

Maker Faire Participants

We've shown our work at Maker Faires alongside inventors, engineers, and builders — demonstrating live how salvaged metal and found objects become art.

02

Patent Holder

A patented process born from years of working with reclaimed and recycled materials — a method for transforming industrial cast-offs into durable, exhibition-ready sculpture.

03

Five Locations

Studio spaces and pop-up residencies across Fennville, Santa Cruz, Barcelona, Saugatuck, and Newport — a working collective with a genuinely coastal reach.
